The Senior Pastor of Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC), Matthew Ashimolowo has insisted that Nigeria has a good leader in President Bola Tinubu, but that the system won’t allow him execute his good intentions for the country.
The cleric stated this in Outside the Box podcast, observing that Nigerians pay too much attention too much on people who occupy political offices rather than the system they operate under.
According to him, “I believe we have a president who is ready to fix this nation. I believe he has seen it all. And I believe he is good intended.
“The system is broken. You can’t fix the presidency, the leadership and leave the system. In my opinion, we have a good head but the head is not enough. So, leadership and system failure (can’t work together).
“In my opinion therefore as a 73-year-old man who has seen this nation and has lived in another economy for 41 years, I think we have focused too much on the people to lead and not the system to run.”
Ashimolowo buttressed his argument by referencing the United States where a groundnuts farmer in the person of President Jimmy Carter could successfully run the country.
“How come one Hollywood man (Ronald Reagan) ran America and America didn’t fall apart? They have built a system that is bigger than the president. Even the Supreme Court can say “No” to the president,” he said.
He added that the current insecurity crises provide an opportunity for Nigeria to confront the truth and go all out against bandits and their sponsors.
“The crisis on ground now, we should use it to face some truth, from the presidency to the man on the street, mention who is behind any evil, let us know them, let them be taken to court.
“Let them be charged and let there be no forgiveness. Let’s begin to clean the system,” the televangelist said.
