Nigeria’s Super Eagles produced a strong and confident performance on Saturday night in Marrakech, defeating long-time rivals Algeria 2–0 to book a place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
This was more than just a win. It was a clear statement of Nigeria’s ambition at the tournament.
The first half was tense, with both teams playing cautiously and creating few clear chances. But everything changed after the break.
Just minutes into the second half, Victor Osimhen rose highest in the box to head Nigeria into the lead. The goal sparked wild celebrations among Nigerian fans inside the stadium and across the country.
The breakthrough gave the Super Eagles new energy and confidence.
About ten minutes later, Nigeria struck again.
A fast and well-worked team move cut through the Algerian defence, and Akor Adams calmly finished to make it 2–0.
From that point, Nigeria took full control of the match.
The midfield pressed aggressively, the defence stayed solid, and the forwards continued to trouble Algeria with quick attacks. Every tackle and interception drew loud cheers from the crowd.
Algeria, who had not conceded a single goal before this match, tried to fight back. However, Nigeria remained disciplined and focused, denying their opponents any real chance to recover.
When the final whistle was blown, the Super Eagles had done more than qualify for the semi-finals. They had restored belief and reminded Africa of their football strength.
Nigeria does not attend tournaments just to take part. Nigeria comes to compete and to win.
Now, only two matches stand between the Super Eagles and AFCON glory.
As the green and white journey continues, the whole nation marches with them.
