Following the confrontation between military and police forces in Yola on Wednesday, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State promptly organized an emergency security meeting. In a Wednesday night briefing, Governor Fintiri affirmed the successful resolution of the inter-agency conflict.

The skirmish, which initially erupted along Target Junction in Yola North Local Government Area, escalated to an attack on the police headquarters in the state capital.

Tragically, a police inspector lost his life, and the military reported that a soldier had been shot and taken away by the police. However, it was revealed during the emergency security meeting that the wounded soldier had succumbed to his injuries.

Governor Fintiri emphasized that the resolution was achieved through collaborative efforts, bringing together key security heads, including Commissioner of Police Afolabi Babatola and Commander of 23 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Gambo Mohammed. Both leaders pledged to work in synergy for the greater good of Adamawa State and Nigeria.

Confirming the loss of one officer from each side during the clash, Governor Fintiri called for enduring restraint among security forces and the community to prevent a recurrence of hostilities.

Fintiri told reporters: “We are just coming out of the state high command strategic meeting where all the issues between the two concerned state commands were discussed extensively and resolved. We all agreed that our common concern should be the peace and security of the state.

“We have taken note of the men of both sides that lost their lives and those who were injured. The understanding now is that the heads of the sister security agencies are on top of their men and this kind of thing will not happen again.”
