We Won’t Condone Peace-Disrupting Activities, Ondo Police Warns

The Ondo State Police Command has issued a stern warning in response to intelligence reports indicating a plot by what it termed ‘certain political elements’ to disrupt the peace of the state.

The caution was communicated on Tuesday through a statement from SP. Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the Police Public Relations Officer, acting on behalf of Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, Abiodun Asabi.

As per the Police, these individuals are currently mobilizing unsuspecting youths to instigate chaos, seemingly with the intention of tarnishing the state’s reputation for their personal interests. The PPRO subsequently called on citizens to stay vigilant and report any dubious activities.

The statement emphasized that those involved in orchestrating disturbances should reconsider their actions or be prepared to face the consequences of the law.

As the yuletide season approaches, the State Police Command assured law-abiding citizens of their safety and pledged to maintain a secure environment.

In recent developments, it has been reported that backers of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and supporters of the embattled Deputy Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, have disclosed their intentions to organize substantial protests scheduled to take place in Akure this week.

The announcement, made on various social media platforms over the weekend, is a result of the escalating tensions within the state’s political space.

Loyalists of Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa, who is currently facing legal challenges, are mobilizing for a protest to voice their grievances.

In response, supporters of Governor Akeredolu have vowed to organize a counter-protest, setting the stage for a potential clash of demonstrations in the state capital.

The catalyst for these protests is believed to be the recent decision of Justice Emeka Nwite of the Abuja High Court to step back from Aiyedatiwa’s case, citing its pending status before the appellate court. This legal development has further fueled the political fire, with both factions interpreting the decision to suit their narratives.

Former House of Representatives member, Mr. Kokade Akinjo, a prominent figure leading the charge against Governor Akeredolu, stated that

“All the progressives must be ready to join a protest in Akure devoid of party colouration. A huge protest will send a message to all these democratic hawks holding the Constitution to ransom.”

Yet, Prince Dapo Adepoju, an influential APC figure and staunch supporter of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, voiced his concerns to Top Society on Wednesday, alleging that Akinjo is attempting to incite the populace.

Adepoju claimed that Akinjo, being a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party and seemingly aggrieved by his electoral defeat, is fueling discord. He urged security agencies to investigate the situation, emphasizing the need to prevent any potential disruption of law and order in the state.
