In response to the ongoing industrial strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the House of Representatives has taken a decisive step by adjourning plenary to address the issues at hand.
The adjournment was prompted by a motion of “Matters of urgent public importance,” brought to the floor by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu on Wednesday.
Kalu, representing Bende Federal Constituency, Abia State, urged the leadership of the bicameral legislature to engage with organised labour to find a resolution for the benefit of the nation. Lawmakers present expressed concern over the widespread hardships faced by Nigerians during the ongoing strike, emphasizing the need for swift resolution.

Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, announced the adjournment in his ruling, assuring the public that the House leadership would promptly meet with its counterparts to address the matter urgently.
All scheduled items, including the consideration of bills and motions, were suspended, and the House is set to reconvene on Thursday to continue deliberations on the pressing issues arising from the industrial action.
