The incident unfolded during election duty in Okene last Saturday when soldiers intercepted black-colored security vehicles and detained the occupants. Subsequent investigations revealed that three of the arrested individuals were members of the police force. The circumstances surrounding their presence in the intercepted vehicles remain under scrutiny.
Aside from this particular incident, the soldiers engaged in broader arrests during the election, primarily targeting individuals suspected to be political thugs. The security operation aimed at maintaining order during the electoral process uncovered a considerable number of miscreants.
In response to these developments, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, through a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, expressed gratitude to officers who actively participated in the off-circle elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa States. However, the IGP also sternly declared his commitment to sanctioning any erring officers found guilty of misconduct.

“Others who were arrested by election officers escorting VIPs during the polls will also be sanctioned as such actions are against established protocols, and the officers involved will face disciplinary measures as a consequence.”
