The reckless motorist who killed two sanitation workers of Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) along the Gbagada expressway on Monday, have surrendered to the authorities.

The motorist who was previously at large, was said to be fleeing arrest by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) when he ran into the LAWMA workers crushing them to death instantly.

However, the Ministry of Transportation in reaction to the incident on Monday night denied the involvement of its officials in the accident, stating that anyone found culpable after investigation will be punished accordingly.

The statement partly read,

“Immediate investigation revealed that no LASTMA officer was involved in the unfortunate incident.

“The Ministry of Transportation wants to assure members of the public that the outcome of the police investigation will be made public and anyone found culpable would be made to face the consequences of the law.”

Speaking about the incident in a latest development, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin on Tuesday said the accident was not delibrate.

The Lagos PPRO further notes that the driver would be charged in court for manslaughter and not murder.

He said,

“The owner of the Honda Saloon car turned himself in yesterday (Monday) night and he will be taken to court today for manslaughter.

“It was not murder, it was an accident and was not deliberate, so he will be charged with manslaughter.”

Recall, the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) confirmed the death of two of its staff who died along the Gbagada Expressway.

LAWMA added the motorist, was fleeing arrest by officials of the LASTMA when he ran into its workers along the Gbagada axis.

The government agency also vowed to go after the fleeing motorist.
