FIFA World Rankings: Super Eagles of Nigeria Maintain 40th Position

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have held on to their 40th position in the most recent FIFA world ranking, as revealed by the Fédération of Internationale Football Association (FIFA) on Friday, 26 October 2023.

Despite slipping to this rank in the previous publication, the team managed to maintain their position after a 2-2 draw with Saudi Arabia and a 3-2 victory over Mozambique during the recent international break.

Within Africa, the Super Eagles sustained their sixth-place standing, with the top position secured by FIFA 2022 World Cup semi-finalists Morocco. Following closely are the African Cup of Nations champions, Senegal, and in third place is Tunisia. Algeria and Egypt occupy the fourth and fifth positions on the continent, respectively.

In other developments, Lesotho, a group opponent of the Super Eagles in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, witnessed a slight dip in the rankings from 151 to 153.

Meanwhile, fellow group members South Africa moved from 63 to 64, and Zimbabwe maintained their 125th position. Nigeria’s additional World Cup qualifying group opponents, Benin Republic, maintained their 93rd rank, while Rwanda experienced a minor decline in rankings from 139 to 140.

The top ten FIFA rankings remain unchanged, comprising solely of European and South American teams. FIFA 2022 World Cup champions Argentina continue to hold the top spot, followed by France in second and Brazil in third.

The Three Lions of England secure the fourth position, with Belgium concluding the top five.

The subsequent FIFA/Coca-Cola world ranking is scheduled for release by FIFA on 30 November, 2023.
