Makurdi – Benue State Police have apprehended four individuals in connection with the brutal murder of the former President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Late Justice Margaret Igbetar. Her decomposing body was discovered on the 24th of August 2023.
Commissioner of Police in Benue, Bartholomew Onyeka, made the startling announcement during a press briefing, revealing that Mr. Audu Joseph, the principal suspect and nephew of the late Justice, is believed to have masterminded the heinous crime.
According to Commissioner Onyeka, Joseph allegedly conspired with one Dzungwenen Ukor, who colluded with the late Justice’s driver and gateman. Together, they gained unauthorized access to her residence in Makurdi and mercilessly stabbed her multiple times in the chest.
In a surprising twist, the principal suspect, Audu Joseph, expressed remorse for his actions during an interview with journalists.

He claimed that his actions were driven by the late Justice’s refusal to hand over land title documents that belonged to his deceased father. Despite numerous failed attempts at resolving the matter within the family, Joseph resorted to extreme measures, ultimately taking the life of the esteemed Justice in a bid to obtain the documents.
