Nollywood legend, Patience Ozokwor, also known as Mama G, has given explanation to why she settles for villainous characters in home videos.

While speaking during a recent interview, the celebrated thespian spoke about the responsibility she feels in depicting societal realities.

She disclosed that her decision is driven by the desire to expose ills of the society which no one is willing to talk about.

“I felt bold to expose the ills of society. These things happen and nobody wants to expose them, so I’m exposing them.

“So I’m extremely proud of myself and mama G lovers,” the 68-year-old actress stated.

Ozokwo’s statement stirred up the discussion around accountability, representation, and the influence of Nollywood narratives on society.

The last time Ozokwor was in the news, she spoke about the financial struggles faced by many actors in Nollywood.

She stated that Nigerian actors are typically paid only once for their roles without royalties unlike the case in the movie industries of developed countries.

The reason why Nollywood actors and actresses are poor is because we don’t get Royalties for what we do, we only get paid for our appearance at the shoot.

“Go and look at the smallest actors in developed countries. Every work they do fetch them money everyday of their lives.

“Even when they are gone, their families still live on that. We, we are still working hard. That’s why everyone is running to YouTube,” she had said in an interview with Isbae U.
