Fresh fire incidents have left a trail of destruction in Ibadan, where a police facility and several homes were affected, sparking fear among residents.
The outbreaks, which occurred in different parts of the city, have once again drawn attention to the need for improved emergency preparedness and fire safety measures.
One of the major incidents was recorded at a police post in the Kara area of Akinyele Local Government Area. Witnesses said the fire broke out suddenly and quickly consumed operational equipment, including a patrol van and multiple motorcycles, before firefighters could arrive at the scene.
Emergency responders from the Oyo State Fire Service were, however, able to bring the situation under control after a swift intervention.
Their efforts reportedly stopped the flames from spreading to the main police station building and adjoining properties, thereby limiting the scale of destruction.
In separate incidents recorded on the same day, three residential buildings located in different parts of Ibadan were also affected by fire outbreaks. One of the buildings, situated at No. 19 Omigade Street around Robert Junction in the Ososami area, suffered significant damage, particularly on its ground floor.
Additional fires were reported in Moniya and Alakia, both within the Ibadan metropolis. Residents in these areas described moments of fear and confusion as they attempted to salvage belongings while waiting for emergency assistance.
The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed all the incidents, noting that firefighters were deployed swiftly to each location.
He explained that coordinated efforts by his team helped to bring the situations under control and prevent further escalation.
Although no casualties have been officially reported, the extent of property damage is still being assessed.
Authorities have urged residents in affected area to remain vigilant and adhere to fire safety precautions to reduce the risk of future occurrences.
