The Lagos State Government has announced the resumption of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, set to take effect from Saturday, April 25, 2026, marking a renewed push to improve environmental conditions across the state.

According to the directive, the exercise will now hold on the last Saturday of every month between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.

During this period, residents across the state are expected to participate actively by cleaning their surroundings, clearing drainage systems in front of their homes and business premises, and ensuring proper waste disposal in approved locations.

Authorities emphasized that the sanitation exercise is not optional but a civic responsibility aimed at promoting a cleaner environment, improving public health, and reducing the risk of flooding, particularly during the rainy season when blocked drains often contribute to waterlogging in many parts of the state.

Residents have also been advised to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse and to adopt sustainable waste management practices as part of efforts to maintain environmental standards. The government reiterated that cleaner neighborhoods contribute significantly to disease prevention and overall quality of life.

The government further noted that the exercise will be strictly enforced, with relevant agencies deployed to monitor compliance and ensure adherence to sanitation guidelines.

This, officials say, underscores a renewed commitment to environmental discipline, orderliness, and urban sustainability across Lagos.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to maintain cleanliness, enhance the livability of Nigeria’s commercial hub, and foster a culture of collective responsibility among residents toward building a safer and healthier environment.
