The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed the arrest of four suspected bandits near Akure Airport in Ondo State, Nigeria.

The announcement was made on Sunday by Henry Agbebire, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection. In an official statement, he explained that the suspects were caught during a coordinated security operation carried out by several security agencies working together around the airport.

According to FAAN, the operation began after authorities received a distress alert reporting that some suspicious individuals had been seen behind the airport’s perimeter fence, close to the Eleyewo community. The report raised concerns that the individuals could pose a threat to the safety of the airport and the surrounding communities.

Immediately after receiving the alert, security personnel launched a joint search operation in the area. The operation involved FAAN’s Aviation Security team (AVSEC), the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, and other local security groups and vigilantes. Their quick and coordinated response helped them locate and arrest the four suspects within the airport vicinity.

FAAN explained that the successful arrest shows the effectiveness of cooperation between aviation security officials and other security agencies in protecting critical infrastructure such as airports. Authorities believe that strong collaboration and quick responses to security alerts are essential for preventing potential threats.

The agency also reassured the traveling public and residents living near the airport that safety remains its top priority. FAAN emphasized that it will continue to strengthen security measures at airports across the country and work closely with national security agencies to ensure that passengers, airport workers, and nearby communities remain protected.

Officials have not yet released further details about the suspects or the investigation. However, FAAN stated that appropriate security and legal procedures will be followed as the case progresses.

The authority encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities around airports or other important facilities to security agencies. It also thanked the security teams involved for their prompt action and dedication to maintaining safety at Nigeria’s airports.
