Egbin Power Plc has launched a technology-based empowerment programme to help young people from its host communities Egbin, Ijede and Ipakan gain valuable digital skills.
The programme is part of the company’s Personal Corporate Social Responsibility (PCSR) initiative. Its goal is to improve job opportunities, promote entrepreneurship, and help young people take advantage of the growing digital economy.
Speaking at the launch, the Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Power Plc, Mokhtar Bounour, said the company’s responsibility goes beyond generating electricity. According to him, Egbin Power is committed to supporting inclusive and sustainable development by empowering people in its surrounding communities.
He explained that technology is now essential for economic growth and inclusion, and that communities left out of the digital space risk falling behind. He added that the empowerment programme was created to close this digital gap and ensure young people have practical, in-demand skills that can help them earn a living or start their own businesses.
The first group of participants includes youths from the three host communities. They will receive training in ICT basics, graphic design, full-stack web development, digital marketing, cybersecurity, and data analytics. The training combines classroom lessons with hands-on practical work.
Participants were chosen through a screening process that focused on their interest, determination, and willingness to learn. In addition to technical skills, the programme also teaches workplace values such as ethics, teamwork, problem-solving, professionalism, and responsible use of digital tools.
Bounour encouraged the participants to act as good representatives of the programme by showing integrity, discipline, and commitment. He said their success would prove that well-planned corporate responsibility programmes can make a real difference.
He also urged them to give back to their communities by mentoring others, sharing knowledge, and using their new skills to solve real local problems. According to him, the true impact of the programme will be seen in the positive changes it creates across the communities.
Egbin Power Plc reaffirmed its commitment to long-term community development and investing in people as part of Nigeria’s digital and economic growth.
