The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has invalidated the certificates of 101 individuals mobilised for national service by the University of Calabar (UNICAL) during the 2021, 2022, and 2023 service years.
According to a statement signed by the Director, Information and Public Relations of the Corp, Eddy Megwa, the organisation took the action to maintain the integrity of the national service programme and prevent unqualified individuals from participating.
The statement added that, the affected individuals were found to have been mobilised fraudulently, and their certificates have been canceled immediately as part of the NYSC’s strong commitment to ensuring that only qualified individuals are issued certificates of national service.
The NYSC also advised the public, especially Corps Employers, Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Corporate and Religious Organizations, Multi-National Companies, and Corps Producing Institutions, to verify the authenticity of certificates presented to them.
The NYSC has always warned individuals with fake credentials to stay off its Orientation Camps across the country.
It stated that anybody caught, especially graduates from the universities in West African sub-region with the intent to undermine the integrity of its mobilisation process with fake certificates would be arrested and prosecuted.
It stated that the body had put necessary mechanism in place to curb the enrolment of fake graduates for the Orientation course, and would continue working diligently in that direction.
The NYSC noted that the Scheme had made tremendous achievements in the fight against unqualified graduates who try to infiltrate the Scheme.
According to the scheme during the 2019 Batch ‘C’ online registration, over 20,000 foreign – trained Nigerians uploaded their results online, however, during the physical verification exercise, just 3,420 showed up, having been forewarned that anyone caught with fake certificate would be prosecuted.
