The Annual Chess competition organised by HydeasHUB on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at the Radisson Blu, GRA Ikeja, Lagos showcased the values of the schools in developing a Grit mindset to face challenges, exploring, understanding and impacting it’s environment through excellence, learning intellectually and some of the virtues were displayed at the Annual Chess competition.
The competition is a Mind and Intelligence development initiative designed to re-energise basic education across Africa. It is also driven to create sustainable solutions in the minds of the next generation through Chess.
The outcome of this development of knowledge in a child is a key component and mantra of Newfield Schools, Magodo, Phase 2, Lagos. This year, Newfield School, took part in four different categories and they proved themselves with grace and skill with four medals. Miracle Okon won two bronze medals and Mfon Inyang and Chinonso Okafor with silver medals each.
In the light of these gallant champions of the school, Mr Charles Ukomadu of Crownworth Consults, a consult outfit reiterated the need for more of such laudable competitions to realign the future of today in more creative and dynamic use of the mind, dexerity and skill in problem solving.
He celebrated all the schools and participants especially the Newfield School Chairman and teachers for nurturing young minds with wisdom, ethics and dignity, leading them through innovation, diligence in pursing brilliance and fuel for success.

He said there are bright and challenging days ahead with the skill and grace displayed by the students of Newfield school. With the Mind and Intelligence Fest competition, the sky is the starting line for the future of tomorrow especially with Miracle Okon who carted away two medals.
On his part, the Chairman of Newfield School, Engr Femi Fanibi praised the management especially the dedication of the teachers and team that makes Newfield school, Magodo, Phase 2 stand tall.

He said, “the four medals brought a symbol of might, reflecting the effort, the passion, the drive of the school in the winners. He said the victories stand as a radiant light, filled with courage and boldness to rekindle the spirit of more champions to come. Mr Ukomadu said in the chess of life, they’ve all proven their dues with moves so precise and stories unfold of their feats. Stand up for all the champions especially of Newfield School, Magodo, the pride of our land.”
The chess tournament had in attendance various schools around Lagos with support from both public and private sector players like the Universal Basic Education Board, Lagos State, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Federal Ministry of Education, Arise News, The Place, Nestle Life, UNHCR, Mastercard amongst others.
