The 2023 edition of the annual Champion Newspapers Award was held in Lagos on Saturday with telecommunications services provider Globacom, taking home the Telecommunication Company of The Year Award.
The award, presented to Globacom at a ceremony held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, is a testament to the company’s commitment to innovation. Globacom’s affordable communication tools are not just transforming lives but also revolutionizing businesses across Nigeria.
The managing director of Champion Newspapers Limited, Dr (Mrs) Nwadiuto Iheakanwa, shared the purpose of the awards ceremony. She said, “All that we strive to do is to recognize excellence and hard work, a mission that we cannot achieve without your support and participation. Let us agitate our minds into doing more good”.
She said, “For Nigeria to get better and bigger, we will need more of this calibre of people and institutions who we set out to honor this evening because they constitute an integral part of the best”.
The ceremony was attended by top private and public sector players and political officeholders who have excelled in their various fields, including First Bank, Fidelity Bank, Julius Berger Plc, Consolidated Hallmark Insurance Limited, and the CEOs of UBA, Zenith Bank, and Fidelity Bank.
The Managing Editor of Champion, Mr Kelvin Egerue, remarked that Globacom had made a lot of sacrifices to make telecommunications services available to Nigerians at the most affordable rate. “Nigerians will forever be proud to note that Globacom is always there to ensure they are not exploited, he said.
