We serve the Nigerian audience and the global community with verifiable, timely, original and unbiased reporting that reflects every segment of society.

Constitutional Rights

The Nigerian Constitution guarantees citizens the right to form and express opinions. Section 22 affirms that the press and other media agencies shall uphold accountability of the Government to the people.

At Top Society, we exercise these rights responsibly by publishing factual and accurate information that supports informed democratic participation.

Editorial Standards & Ethics

Truth and Accuracy

We prioritize verifiable facts from credible sources. All published materials undergo careful fact-checking before going live.

Independence

Top Society operates independently and does not serve political, corporate, ethnic, religious, or special interests. Independent review is part of our editorial process.

Fairness and Objectivity

We present balanced and contextualized stories. Facts are not distorted, exaggerated, or sensationalized. Critical subjects are given reasonable opportunity to respond.

Humanity & Advocacy

We consider the human impact of our reporting. Privacy rights are respected and balanced against public interest.

Accountability

Journalists are prohibited from intimidation or duress. Sensitive matters such as suicide, death, nudity or obscenity are handled with care and responsibility.

Verification & Fact-Checking

Anonymous sources may be used only when information is vital, unavailable otherwise, and sourced from reliable individuals.

We adhere to the SPJ Code of Ethics: identify sources whenever feasible and clarify anonymity conditions.

Unnamed Sources Policy

  • We strive to identify sources whenever possible.
  • Confidential sources are used cautiously and protected.
  • Editors exercise discretion case-by-case.
  • Aggregated exclusive news will link to primary sources.

Minors

We do not interview or film children under 18 without parental or guardian consent, except in cases of overriding public interest.

We do not publish identifying details of children involved in exploitation or abuse cases unless legally mandated.

Rape, Sexual Assault & Harassment Victims

We protect the identity of victims unless consent is given. Convicted perpetrators receive no such protection.

Fact vs Opinion

We clearly distinguish factual reporting from opinion pieces. Satire will be clearly labeled.

Privacy vs Public Interest

We balance privacy rights against overriding public interest, particularly in cases involving corruption, crime, public health and safety.

Plagiarism

All submissions are checked for plagiarism. Plagiarized work will be rejected or removed following investigation.

Corrections Policy

Errors are corrected promptly and transparently. Corrections include the updated information, original error, and the date of amendment.
