Retired General Yohanna Yerima Kure, former General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 82 Amour Division in Enugu and the 2 Mechanized Division in Ibadan, has died at the age of 84 in Kaduna following a protracted illness.
General Kure, born on April 2, 1939, into the Royal family of Mallam Manchaik Kure and Mallama Tawok Kure in Kurmin Musa, Kachia LGA, Kaduna State, played a significant role in the Nigerian Army.

He led operations against the Maitatsine fanatical group in Kano in 1980 and in Yola in 1982, showcasing his dedication to maintaining peace and order.

Educated in Missionary Schools in Kwoi and Kagoro for his elementary education, Kure later attended the Provincial Secondary School Zaria, also known as Alhudahuda. His military journey commenced in 1963 when he enlisted in the Nigerian Army through the prestigious Nigerian Military Training College (now NDA), and he was commissioned as an officer in 1964.
Retiring as an officer in 1990, General Y.Y. Kure continued his education at ECWA Theological College in Jos, earning his first degree and Masters in Theology. Following his theological pursuits, he transitioned into pastoral work.

Survived by his wife, siblings, numerous children, grandchildren, and relations, General Y.Y. Kure’s contributions to both the military and the religious community will be remembered.
A Wake keep and Service of Songs to honor General Kure will be held on the 29th of November 2023 at ECWA Church Lemu Road, Tudun Wada Kaduna at 4 pm.
The final rites and burial are scheduled to take place in his hometown, Kurmin Musa, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on the 1st of December 2023.
