Khaki Out, Adire In: FG unveils New NYSC uniform

The Federal Government has announced plans to replace the traditional khaki uniform worn by members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with Adire fabric as part of ongoing reforms.

The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, disclosed this on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief programme.

According to the minister, the decision is aimed at supporting local industries and ensuring government spending benefits the Nigerian economy.

Olawande explained that Adire fabric is produced in different parts of Nigeria, including Ogun and Kwara states, and that using locally made materials will help strengthen the country’s textile industry.

“It’s Adire. Adire is produced in Nigeria. We have it in Ogun, Kwara, and other places with textile industries. We want to keep our money within the country,” he said.

He added that the change would create more opportunities for local manufacturers and promote Nigerian craftsmanship through government support.

The minister also revealed that the Federal Government is reviewing the NYSC posting system. Under the new arrangement, corps members will be posted according to their fields of study and professional qualifications.

The reforms are part of efforts to improve the NYSC scheme and make it more beneficial to both participants and the country’s economy.
