Mixed Reactions As Ned Nwoko Pushes For Nigerians To Carry Personal Guns

Nigerians on social media are reacting to the bill proposed by lawmaker representing Delta North senatorial district, Ned Nwoko to allow civilians bear guns to protect themselves.

The bill, Nwoko said on Thursday during an interview on Arise TV’s The Morning Show, will see Nigerians defend themselves against kidnappers, bandits and armed robbers.

According to the 63-year-old lawmaker, the police is not adequately funded and is under-staffed hence the need for civilians to be allowed to carry arms.

Nwoko explained the qualifications for firearm ownership, stressing that it must involve obtaining references from traditional rulers in their domains, and must go through a shooting school among other requirements.

Social media users have begun sharing their opinions about it. See below:

“I do not support the supposed bill by Ned Nwoko to allow Nigerians to carry firearms. The immediate succour might be appealing, but the long-term effect will be disastrous. We should be looking for ways to retrieve the firearms that are illegally in people’s hands.”

“I don’t support this at all. Ned Nwoko should know that civilians carrying arms will bring more problems. Can’t imagine those boys in agege and under bridges around Lagos carrying arms, or one angry person bringing out a gun in the market.”

“I support Ned Nwoko, time to save up for a f**king Glock 45. We should defend ourselves from the hands of Fulani kidnappers since the govt have failed in there primary responsibility.”
