Senate Confirms Three Ministerial Nominees Despite Dramatic Incident

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed three ministerial nominees, adding to the 45 previously approved by the Red Chamber in August.

The newly confirmed nominees are Jamila Ibrahim from Kwara State, Balarabe Lawal from Kaduna State, and Ayodele Olawande from Ondo State.

This confirmation comes just a day after President Bola Tinubu sent a letter to the Senate, urging them to approve these nominees for ministerial positions.

The confirmation process began around 1 pm on Wednesday and took approximately two and a half hours. Senate President Godwill Akpabio put the nominations to a voice vote, with senators voting in favor of the nominees’ confirmation.

However, what was meant to be a routine confirmation process took an unexpected turn when Balarabe Lawal, the nominee from Kaduna State, collapsed after concluding his introduction. This sudden incident prompted several people present to rush to his aid.

Lawal was unable to take questions due to the incident, but despite this alarming development, his nomination was also confirmed. Fortunately, Lawal was later revived, and he is now officially confirmed as a ministerial nominee.
