The All Progressives Congress (APC) has selected Damilola Sonayon-James as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 elections in Lagos State.
Sonayon-James, who is from Badagry, will run alongside Dr. Obafemi Hamzat as his deputy governorship candidate.
She is a politician, sustainability expert, and business leader known for her grassroots political work and support for women’s empowerment.
Currently, she serves as the Deputy State Chairman of the APC in Lagos State.
Her political career began as the State Assistant Woman Leader of the party before she was promoted to Deputy State Chairman. She also served as the Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture and Social Services in Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
Sonayon-James holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) and a degree in Business and Human Resources Management from the University of Hull in the United Kingdom.
Apart from politics, she has built a career in human resources, logistics, and sustainability. She is the Chief Executive Officer of DGS Chauffeurs & Logistics.
Apart from her political experience, Sonayon-James has been actively involved in community development initiatives, particularly programmes aimed at supporting women, young people, and small business owners across Lagos State.
Party leaders believe her selection will strengthen the APC’s appeal in Badagry and other parts of Lagos, while also boosting female representation in the state’s political leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.
Her emergence as Hamzat’s running mate marks another milestone in her political journey and is expected to play a significant role in shaping the APC’s campaign strategy for the governorship election.
