President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given approval for Dr. Olugbemi role of Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, beginning January 10, 2026. The appointment is for a single four-year term.
Dr. Odusote, currently the Deputy Director-General and leader of the Lagos Campus, makes history as the first woman to be appointed to the school’s highest office since the institution was created over six decades ago.
She will replace Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, who is scheduled to complete his eight-year leadership of the Law School on January 9, 2026.
An accomplished legal scholar, Dr. Odusote earned her law degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She later completed a master’s degree in company and commercial law at the same university before earning a doctorate in Law from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom. Her academic interests focus on public law and judicial administration.
Her professional journey at the Nigerian Law School began in 2001 when she joined the institution as a lecturer. Since then, she has occupied several senior academic and administrative positions, including Director of Academics, Head of Department, and Campus Director. She also briefly served as a visiting academic at Nottingham Trent University in the UK.
Dr. Odusote has made significant scholarly contributions through publications in both Nigerian and international legal journals and has presented research at numerous conferences on legal education. In addition, she has served on multiple committees under the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.
As Director General, she will provide overall leadership for the Law School, guiding academic standards, managing administrative operations, and shaping long-term policy across all campuses. She will also represent the institution in its dealings with key legal bodies, including the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
