A Federal High Court in Ibadan has cancelled the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15, 2025.
The judge, Justice Uche Agomoh, ruled on Friday that the convention was illegal because it was held against existing court orders. He also stopped members of the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) from presenting themselves as PDP national officers.
According to the judge, the PDP cannot ignore court orders and later ask the court to approve actions taken in disobedience of those orders. He ruled that the party must be run by a caretaker committee until a valid and lawful national convention is conducted.
The Turaki-led faction of the PDP had earlier gone to court to ask for official recognition of the Ibadan convention and the NWC members elected there.
At the November 2025 convention, 20 national officers were elected. They included Tanimu Turaki as National Chairman, Hamza Akuyan Koshe as Deputy National Chairman (North), Daniel Ambrose Woye as Deputy National Chairman (South), and Arapaja Taofeek Gbola-Oladejo as National Secretary.
Before the convention, different courts gave conflicting orders. On October 31, 2025, a Federal High Court in Abuja stopped the PDP from holding the convention, saying the party failed to conduct valid state congresses as required by law and party rules.
However, on November 4, 2025, an Oyo State High Court ordered the PDP and its former chairman, Umar Damagum, to go ahead with the convention scheduled for November 15 in Ibadan.
Later, on November 11, 2025, another Federal High Court in Abuja again stopped the party from holding the convention.
Despite these court orders, the convention went ahead, leading to the court’s decision to cancel it.
