The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has informed the public that its Passport Digital Platform will not function normally for a short period because the agency is carrying out routine system maintenance.
In a statement released on Friday, the NIS spokesperson, Akinsola Akinlabi, explained that the maintenance will begin at 12:00 a.m. on December 12 and end at 6:00 a.m. on December 14, 2025 (GMT). This means that for about two days, people trying to use the online passport services may face different levels of interruption.
Akinlabi said the maintenance is part of the service’s efforts to upgrade its systems, improve performance, and make the platform more reliable for millions of Nigerians who depend on it for passport applications, renewals, and other related services.
He noted that during the maintenance window, users may experience slow loading times, temporary inability to access some services, or complete service downtime. He added that this is normal during system upgrades and is not a sign of any security breach or technical failure.
“The Nigeria Immigration Service wishes to inform the general public that it is carrying out routine maintenance to improve system performance and provide a smoother user experience. We encourage Nigerians to be patient and understanding during this period,” the statement read.
The NIS also emphasized that the maintenance is important to protect the digital passport system from cyber threats, ensure data safety, and keep the national passport process running efficiently in the long term.
The Service assured the public that once the maintenance is completed, the platform will resume full operations and users will enjoy a better, faster, and more secure service.
