Benue State is set to begin work on Nigeria’s first national food city complex in Ogyoma community.
Governor Hyacinth Alia has asked residents of the area to help protect foreign contractors and all project equipment.
The governor made this appeal during the official handover of 34,000 hectares of land for the project. The land is located in Ogyoma, Akpa district, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The Executive Secretary of the Benue Investment Promotion Agency, Johnpaul Kpenkaan, led a state government delegation to the community on behalf of Governor Alia.
He was joined by other government officials and members of the project consortium. They were warmly received by community members, traditional rulers, and local chiefs.
Speaking at the event, Kpenkaan urged the people of Ogyoma to ensure the safety of foreign experts working on the project and to protect the multi-billion-naira investment.
Benue State is one of six states chosen for the pilot phase of the national food city complex.
The project is expected to improve food production, processing, and export across Nigeria, while also creating jobs and boosting the local economy.
