Nigerian musicians dominated the 9th All Africa Music Awards AFRIMA, held in Lagos on Sunday night, winning several major awards.
Rema was the biggest winner of the night. He won three awards:
Artiste of the Year
Best Male Artiste in Western Africa
Best African Artiste in RnB and Soul
Burna Boy also had a strong showing. He won Album of the Year for No Sign of Weakness. He also won Best African Collaboration with Shallipopi for the song Laho.
Shallipopi went on to win Song of the Year for the same track.
Yemi Alade won Best Soundtrack in a Movie, Series or Documentary for her song You Are, which was featured in the animated series Iyanu.
Phyno won Best African Artiste in African Hip-Hop, while Tanzania’s Juma Jux won Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa.
Among new stars, Qing Madi was named Most Promising Artiste of the Year, while Chella won African Fans’ Favourite.
