The military under Operation Hadin Kai has issued a security warning to residents of Borno State and other parts of Northeast Nigeria ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, urging citizens to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies.

According to the military, intelligence reports indicate that some remaining members of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) may attempt isolated attacks during the festive period.

The statement warned that these threats could target civilian locations with large gatherings and may involve suicide bombers or improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Despite the warning, the military assured residents that extensive security preparations have already been made to prevent any disruption during the celebrations.

In a statement released in Maiduguri by the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, the command said troops have been strategically deployed to critical and vulnerable areas across the Northeast to strengthen protection and maintain public safety.

The command explained that surveillance operations and intelligence monitoring have been fully activated while patrol activities have been intensified. Security personnel are also working closely with other security agencies, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and community vigilance groups to detect and stop any security threats before they occur.

Residents were advised to celebrate responsibly and remain security conscious throughout the holiday period.

The military encouraged people to observe Eid prayers and celebrations close to their homes and avoid unnecessary exposure in large public gatherings where possible. Citizens were also urged to remain cautious in busy locations such as markets, motor parks, banking halls, and prayer grounds.

The statement further encouraged members of the public to report suspicious individuals, unattended objects, or unusual activities to the nearest security post immediately and cooperate with security officials during patrols and screening exercises.

Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed that troops remain fully prepared and committed to protecting lives and ensuring that the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations take place peacefully across the Northeast.
