The Ondo State House of Assembly on Wednesday requested that Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa withdraw all ongoing court cases related to the impeachment procedure, as a prerequisite for resolving the issue.

The Assembly, following discussions between certain members, party leaders, and the national leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Abuja, had previously halted the impeachment process against the Deputy Governor on Tuesday.

Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Mr Olatunji Oshati, conveyed this in a statement released on Wednesday.

“The Speaker expressed the desire of the House leadership to further consult with members of the House cutting across party lines, on the political solution as proposed by the APC.

“The House, therefore, hopes that in the same spirit of genuine wish for a political solution, the deputy governor would take immediate steps to withdraw the multiple court cases he filed over the same impeachment.

“This would allow the stakeholders to freely discuss the settlement proposals and prevent actions or comments over a matter that is still sub judice.”

Aiyedatiwa had initiated legal actions both in Abuja and Akure to contest his impeachment.

In the meantime, the Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, on Wednesday, strongly criticized Dr Doyin Odebowale, an aide to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, for his remarks on the governor’s whereabouts.

While appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Odebowale, who serves as the governor’s Special Adviser on Special Duty and Strategy, had provided a justification for Akeredolu’s continued absence from Ondo State subsequent to his return from an extended medical leave in Germany.
