Supreme Court Sets Date for Kanu’s Judgment

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has scheduled December 15 as the date for its judgment in the appeals lodged by both the Federal Government and Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

This announcement was made on Thursday, following the conclusion of final submissions by legal representatives of both parties. Tijani Gazali, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), presented arguments on behalf of the Federal Government, while Mike Ozekhome, also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), represented Nnamdi Kanu.

At the crux of this legal battle is the Federal Government’s appeal to have the Supreme Court overturn a previous ruling by the Court of Appeal. This ruling had nullified the treasonable felony charge against Nnamdi Kanu and ordered his release. The Court of Appeal’s decision was grounded in the assertion that Kanu had been unlawfully brought back to Nigeria after fleeing while on bail.

Conversely, Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team is fervently advocating for the Supreme Court to uphold the judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal and revoke the subsequent order that halted the implementation of said judgment.
