In a press conference held today, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voiced its apprehensions over the looming security challenges in Imo and Kogi States leading up to the highly anticipated governorship elections.
Mallam Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the National Commissioner of INEC, emphasized the urgent need for bolstered security measures in both states, as well as in Bayelsa, to ensure a peaceful and successful electoral process. These concerns were raised during a crucial meeting with media executives convened for the 2023 Governorship election in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

Haruna earnestly appealed to all stakeholders, including political actors and security agencies, to prioritize the maintenance of peace and stability in these states. He underscored the importance of safeguarding the democratic rights of voters and ensuring that they can freely exercise their choices without fear or intimidation.
