The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended its congratulations to the governor of the state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, for their victory at the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Monday.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, expressed satisfaction with the court’s reaffirmation of Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat’s victory, emphasizing it as a testament to the authenticity of their mandate.
Oladejo also congratulated all Lagos State residents, particularly APC members who dedicated significant effort during the elections. He stated that this reaffirmation highlights the electorate’s preference for developmental, progressive, responsive, and responsible governance over risky experiments, emphasizing that the petitions from their opponents were merely academic exercises by losers.
“The affirmation is an eloquent testimony to the free choice made by the overwhelming majority of voters of their preference for developmental, progressive, passionate, responsive and responsible governance over needless and risky experiments,” Oladejo stated.
“Our unshakable belief that the petitions of our opponents amounted to mere academic exercise by sore losers was undoubtedly upheld by the verdict.”
He assured Lagos State residents of the party’s commitment to delivering service through elected and appointed representatives, aiming to provide the desired dividends of democracy.
“The Lagos APC wishes to assure all Lagos residents through our various elected and appointed representatives of our age long traditional service delivery in order to provide the desired dividends of democracy.”
Oladejo said the party was extending an olive branch to all, including opponents, inviting them to contribute to the progress of the state.
The Lagos State Election Petition Tribunal’s unanimous decision on Monday declared Sanwo-Olu as the rightful winner and duly elected candidate of the March 18 gubernatorial election.
In an 11-hour judgment, the tribunal confirmed Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat as the victors of the governorship election. Justice Mikhail Abdullah announced this verdict while addressing the objections raised by the petitioners during the case.

The court unanimously dismissed the petitions filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, as well as that of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party Governorship Candidate.
Their petitions challenged the victory of Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the Lagos State governorship election held on March 18.
Adediran challenged Sanwo-olu and Hamzat’s right to contest with a ticket. He also accused Hazmat of not including an oath declaration in the Nomination Form EC9 submitted to the Independent National Electoral Comission (INEC). He added that APC did not comply with the Electoral Act when nominating Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat.
In his petition, Rhodes-Vivour argued that Sanwo-Olu’s victory was illegitimate due to corrupt practices or failure to adhere to the Electoral Act 2022 and the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He also claimed that the second respondent did not win the majority of the valid votes cast during the election.
Rhodes-Vivour, in his petition, also challenged the eligibility of Hazmat to contest on the grounds that he renounced his Nigerian citizenship and swore allegiance to the United States of America.
