Three suspected bandits have been arrested in connection with the deadly attack on Woro village in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The arrest was made by a joint team of security operatives, who acted on reliable intelligence.

According to the Senior Special Assistant on Media to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the suspects were caught while trying to buy a motorcycle in Kaiama. Authorities said the men entered the town pretending to be buyers, but security agents were already tracking their movements and quickly intercepted them.

Officials explained that the suspects are now in custody and are cooperating with investigators. They are providing useful information that could help security forces rescue people who were kidnapped during the attack and also help prevent further violence in the area.

The arrests are linked to the brutal incident that happened on February 3, 2026, when armed attackers stormed Woro village and nearby Nuku community.

The attackers killed a large number of residents and abducted many others, including women and children. Reports suggest that between 162 and over 200 people lost their lives, making it one of the worst attacks in the history of the state. About 176 people were also taken away by the attackers, causing fear and tension across the region.

A video that appeared online days after the incident reportedly showed some of the kidnapped victims, which increased public concern and pressure on authorities to act quickly.

Governor AbdulRazaq strongly condemned the killings, describing them as a cruel and senseless attack on innocent people.

In response to the worsening security situation, President Bola Tinubu ordered the deployment of more soldiers to the affected communities.

This led to the launch of a special military operation known as “Operation Savannah Shield,” aimed at restoring peace and tracking down those responsible.

Since then, security agencies have increased patrols, surveillance, and intelligence gathering in Kaiama and surrounding areas. Efforts are ongoing to arrest more suspects, dismantle criminal networks, and ensure that those still being held captive are safely rescued.

Authorities have assured residents that they are committed to improving security and preventing such tragic incidents from happening again.
