JUST IN: Meranda Presides Over Lagos Assembly Plenary as Obasa Absent, Again

Damilola

in a significant development, Speaker Mojisola Meranda is currently presiding over the plenary at the Lagos State House of Assembly, while ousted Speaker Mudashiru Obasa is noticeably absent.

This is not the first time Obasa has missed a plenary session, having been absent from the last two sittings as well.

Earlier in the day, Obasa, Meranda, and all the lawmakers held a meeting outside the chamber, which was attended by top leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi, and the Attorney General of Lagos State, Lawal Pedro. The meeting aimed to resolve the lingering leadership crisis at the House, but its outcome remains uncertain.

Obasa had arrived at the assembly complex around 1:30 pm to join the meeting but later left after a separate discussion with the AG, Ojelabi, and other party stakeholders. Despite his absence, the lawmakers are rallying behind Meranda, praising her leadership since her appointment as Speaker by over 30 lawmakers on January 13.

The leadership tussle between Meranda and Obasa has been ongoing, with Obasa insisting that his impeachment did not follow due process. However, Meranda’s presidency over the plenary suggests that the House is moving forward with her at the helm.
