Former U.S. President Donald Trump has defended his recent tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China. He spoke to reporters at the Joint Base Andrews on Sunday night, suggesting that the European Union might also face similar tariffs.
Trump imposed a 25% extra tax on imports from Canada and Mexico, and a 10% tax on imports from China. This led to criticism from leaders and citizens in Canada and Mexico.
Trump said that Canada has been “abusive” toward the U.S. when it comes to trade.
He mentioned that Canada doesn’t allow U.S. banks to operate there, which he called surprising. He also said that Canada doesn’t allow U.S. farm products and energy products to come in, while the U.S. allows everything from Canada. He claimed the U.S. helps Canada by about $200 billion each year.
