The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has announced its support for President Bola Tinubu if he decides to run for a second term in 2027.
The party also expressed confidence in the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, praising his work so far. They thanked Akume for his leadership, which they said has united APC members in the North Central region.
The party believes that the strong performance in the last general election can be repeated in 2027 under Tinubu’s leadership.
Although President Tinubu has not yet announced plans to seek re-election, Akume recently urged Northern politicians not to run against him in 2027.
He argued that, based on power-sharing agreements, the presidency should remain in the South for another four years.
This view was challenged by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who stated that Nigerians will ultimately decide who becomes president in 2027.
At a political event in Makurdi, Senator Jack Gyado, a Second Republic politician, defended Akume, saying he has done a good job as SGF. Gyado said, “Akume is doing well in his role, and we are fully behind him both politically and otherwise.”
He also assured that the APC in the North Central region, particularly in Benue, is united and ready to support Tinubu in 2027.
Gyado criticized any divisions within the APC in Benue, saying the party remains strong under Akume and the state chairman, Austin Agada. He highlighted the cooperation among federal appointees, as well as current and former lawmakers, as evidence of the party’s unity.
