The South East leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have accused the Federal Government of causing problems within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The allegation was made on Tuesday by the party’s South East Vice Chairman, Ali Odefa, during the inauguration of the Abia State PDP Caretaker Committee in Enugu.

Odefa said the crisis in the PDP did not happen by chance. He claimed it was a planned effort by the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu to weaken the opposition and stop the party from participating fully in the 2027 elections.

He urged party members to stay loyal and patient despite the challenges. According to him, some people are working hard to destroy the PDP, but the party will not allow that to happen.
Odefa also said he believes the courts will settle the matter fairly.

He expressed confidence in the judiciary, describing it as the last hope for justice in Nigeria. He mentioned that the Court of Appeal had combined all related appeals and that the party expects a favourable judgment.

He encouraged members of the newly formed Abia State Caretaker Committee to work hard to rebuild the party in the state. He said their task would not be easy but expressed hope that they would succeed.

After his inauguration, the Chairman of the Abia State PDP Caretaker Committee, Ikegbu Emeka, described the assignment as very important for the future of the party. He said the PDP has faced many internal problems but believes this is a new beginning.

Emeka called on all aggrieved members to forgive one another and work together to strengthen the party before the next general elections.

The caretaker committee members include Ikegbu Emeka (Chairman), Felix Nwagbara (Secretary), Chief Fidel Chukwuemeka, Engr. Gladys Okoro, Chief Chijindu Kalu, Kelvin Enyi, Mrs. Ugo Kalu, Barr. Obinna Nwaogwugwu, and Samuel Chukwudi Mike.

Several party leaders attended the event, including the PDP South East Zonal Secretary, Chief James Ugwu.
