U.S. Senator Ted Cruz has promised to reveal the names of Nigerian government officials he claims are responsible for the killing of Christians in Nigeria.
Cruz made this known on Tuesday through his official X (formerly Twitter) account, saying he is determined to ensure those behind the violence are held accountable.
The Republican senator, who once ran for president and is known for defending religious freedom, said he has been working on a bill to list Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) a label given to nations accused of serious violations of religious liberty.
He praised former U.S. President Donald Trump for previously designating Nigeria as a CPC due to ongoing violence against Christians and the government’s alleged failure to protect religious minorities.
However, the Nigerian government has repeatedly denied persecuting any religious groups.
Cruz commended Trump’s leadership and said it was time to take further action by sanctioning Nigerian officials responsible for the killings.
“I’ve been pushing legislation to designate Nigeria a CPC and to impose sanctions on the Nigerian officials responsible,” Cruz said.
“Now we should take the next step and hold these officials accountable. I plan to name them clearly in the coming days and weeks.”
