The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered a new type of cannabis known as “California Loud” in Lagos State.
This comes shortly after the agency exposed a secret laboratory in Ajao Estate, Isolo, where a synthetic version of cannabis called Colorado was being produced. A 30-year-old man, Stephen Imoh, was arrested following months of surveillance and intelligence gathering.
Speaking on TVC News, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi explained that Loud is a potent strain of cannabis that produces a stronger effect than regular varieties, which has made it popular among young users.
“We recently discovered a new strain entering Lagos called California Loud. It’s a major concern that requires the involvement of families, communities, and society as a whole,” Babafemi said.
On the earlier Colorado laboratory discovery, he warned that the synthetic drug is extremely dangerous, as it is made by mixing chemicals with THC—the main active ingredient in cannabis.
According to him, the arrested suspect has already suffered severe skin damage due to prolonged exposure to toxic substances used in the production process.
Despite continuous raids and arrests, drug abuse and trafficking continue to pose serious challenges in Nigeria. NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug cartels and seizing all assets linked to illicit drug activities.
Marwa assured that the NDLEA would keep working tirelessly to bring offenders to justice and ensure that no one profits from illegal drug trade in the country.
