The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disqualified six political associations from continuing their registration process as political parties.
In a statement released on Thursday, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, said eight other groups successfully completed the first stage of the registration exercise.
According to INEC, the update followed its regular meeting held on October 30, 2025.
The commission reviewed progress made since its earlier announcement on September 11.
Fourteen associations were initially pre-qualified to take part in the process, which began with a briefing on September 17.
A special online portal for submitting required documents was open from September 18 to October 18.
By October 19, INEC said eight associations had submitted all necessary documents.
These are:
All Democratic Alliance
Citizens Democratic Alliance
Abundance Social Party
African Alliance Party
Democratic Leadership Alliance
Green Future Party
National Democratic Party
Peoples Freedom Party
Olumekun explained that the next phase involves a detailed review of the documents to ensure that each association meets the requirements of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act 2022, and INEC’s regulations for political parties.
He added that the commission remains committed to transparency, inclusiveness, and strengthening Nigeria’s democratic culture.
INEC revealed that it has so far received 171 letters of intent from groups seeking to register as political parties.
