The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has said it did not increase the fees paid by undergraduate students.

Some students had on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, complained about what looked like higher fees on their student portals, suggesting that the university had raised charges.

Last session, returning students paid ₦2,000 each for department and faculty dues, but the amount now shows ₦15,000 on the portal.

Also, the TISHIP fee increased from ₦5,000 to ₦7,500.
Other new items now listed include:
Entrepreneurship: ₦5,000
Portal maintenance: ₦15,000
Student insurance policy: ₦1,250
Student support services: ₦1,250
Professional services: ₦7,500
General Studies (GST): ₦5,000

In a statement released on Wednesday, the university’s spokesperson, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, explained that the changes were not new charges but a combination of payments students used to make separately at their departments and faculties.

She said the update followed a directive from the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which instructed schools to bring all student payments together on the central portal.

“This will make it easier for students applying for NELFUND loans to get full funding for their education and ensure that no extra payments are collected outside the system,” she said.

Alaga-Ibraheem added that the total amount shown on each student’s portal depends on their programme’s requirements and that the university has not increased its fees, only integrated previous payments into one system.
