Daniel Etim-Effiong Reveals His Pre-Romantic Scene Ritual
Nollywood actor and filmmaker Daniel Etim-Effiong has shared a deeply personal part of his creative process—he prays on his knees before filming romantic scenes. The actor said this ritual helps him stay grounded and true to his faith amid the demands of the entertainment industry.
In an interview on Channels TV’s Rubbin’ Minds, Etim-Effiong explained that he seeks divine guidance before shooting any intimate scene, describing the act as “part of his worship.”
“I get all my inspiration from God. I go on my knees and pray before I go to set and kiss,” he revealed.
DEtim-Effiong, who recently made his directorial debut with The Herd, continues to gain attention for both his talent and his values. His previous appearance at The Herd premiere in Lagos drew praise from fans and colleagues alike. (Read more about The Herd premiere here).
Despite facing public criticism after a viral kissing scene in Summer Rain alongside actress Bolaji Ogunmola, the actor maintains that his focus is on storytelling, not controversy.
“The fact that I play romantic roles means I sometimes have kissing scenes. But why must affection always be shown one way? There are many ways to express intimacy,” he explained.
The 37-year-old star, who left a career in engineering to pursue acting, says his journey has always been guided by purpose and faith.
“My family is my garden, then my work. Acting feels like a calling to me—a way to worship through storytelling,” he said.
Daniel Etim-Effiong also emphasized that producers often include romantic scenes to meet audience preferences, not necessarily to provoke controversy.
