This was revealed in a statement by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Folasade Boriowo, on Tuesday in Abuja.

For many years, students seeking admission into higher institutions in Nigeria were required to have at least five credits in subjects including English and Mathematics. The new rule changes that for Arts and Humanities students.

According to the statement, the updated National Guidelines for Entry Requirements into Nigerian Tertiary Institutions aim to make access to higher education easier while maintaining quality.

The new requirements are as follows:
Universities: At least five credit passes in relevant subjects, including English Language, in not more than two sittings. Mathematics remains compulsory only for Science,

Technology, and Social Science courses.
Polytechnics (ND level): At least four credit passes, including English Language for non-science courses, and Mathematics for science-related courses.

Polytechnics (HND level): At least five credits, including English and Mathematics.

Colleges of Education (NCE level): At least four credits, with English mandatory for Arts and Social Science courses, and Mathematics required for Science, Vocational, and Technical programs.
