As Nigeria prepares to mark International Teachers’ Day on October 5, 2025, Wema Bank Plc has started the
“Wema at 80 Teachers’ Day Challenge”, a campaign to honour teachers who have made a lasting impact on their students.

The competition invites students and graduates across Nigeria to post an 80-second video on social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or TikTok. In the video, participants should talk about an unforgettable teacher who positively influenced many students.
They must mention the teacher’s name, school, tag Wema Bank, and use the hashtags #WemaAt80TeachersDay and #TeachersWithALegacyOfImpact. Anyone can participate, including those who finished school long ago. The teacher being honoured may be from a primary, secondary, or tertiary institution.
Wema Bank’s Managing Director, Moruf Oseni, said the challenge aims to give teachers the recognition they deserve.
“Teachers are the quiet builders of every nation’s future. Their sacrifices and dedication have produced generations of leaders and innovators.
This challenge is our way of celebrating them and showing appreciation for their work,” he said.
The Teachers’ Day Challenge has become a yearly tradition for Wema Bank.
In the past two years, the bank has rewarded ten teachers across Nigeria, giving out ₦13 million in cash and gifts.
This year, 10 teachers will again be shortlisted, with three winning major cash prizes and two others receiving special gifts.
According to Abimbola Agbejule, Wema Bank’s Head of Corporate Sustainability, this year’s edition is special because it marks the bank’s 80th anniversary.
“Teachers are the backbone of success stories.
This challenge is our way of giving them their flowers,” she said.
Agbejule added that the campaign is not only about prizes but also about showing gratitude and appreciation for teachers who have shaped countless lives.
Through this initiative, Wema Bank encourages Nigerians to take a moment to say “thank you” to their teachersthose who taught, mentored, and inspired them.

As Wema Bank celebrates 80 years of service, the Teachers’ Day Challenge highlights its commitment to education, empowerment, and sustainability, as well as its continued effort to celebrate those who shape the future.
