Head coach Eric Chelle has given Akor Adams, a striker for Sevilla, his first call-up. Captain William Troost-Ekong leads the team, with Semi Ajayi, Terem Moffi, Alhassan Yusuf, and Olakunle Olusegun returning after time away.
Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali keeps his starting spot, supported by Amas Obasogie and Adebayo Adeleye.

The defense includes Felix Agu, Bruno Onyemaechi, Bright Osayi, Benjamin Fredrick, and Calvin Bassey.

In midfield, Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, and Alhassan Yusuf add both skill and energy.

Up front, Victor Osimhen leads the attack alongside Ademola Lookman, Moses Simon, Samuel Chukwueze, Terem Moffi, Cyriel Dessers, Tolu Arokodare, Olakunle Olusegun, and newcomer Akor Adams.

Why This Squad Matters
Nigeria’s chances of reaching the 2026 World Cup looked slim after five draws in eight matches. But a recent FIFA decision changed things: South Africa’s 2–0 win over Lesotho in March was cancelled. Instead, Lesotho was awarded a 3–0 victory, and South Africa lost three points.

This ruling reshaped Group C:
Benin & South Africa: 14 points each
Nigeria & Rwanda: 11 points each
Lesotho: 9 pointsZimbabwe: 4 points (already out)

For Nigeria, this is a lifeline. A win over Lesotho in Polokwane on October 10 would put them level with the leaders.

Then, a victory at home against Benin in Uyo on October 14 could take them to 17 points—enough to qualify automatically, depending on South Africa’s results.

If they don’t finish top, Nigeria could still qualify as one of the four best runners-up, but goal difference will matter. Currently, Nigeria is only at +2, weaker than Benin and South Africa, so strong wins are essential.
