Tony Elumelu and Jim Ovia, two of Nigeria’s most influential banking figures are set to earn billions of naira as dividends from their leading financial institutions.
UBA Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, will receive about ₦1.68 billion in dividend payments from his stake in United Bank for Africa, according to the bank’s recent corporate filing (Nairametrics). This highlights both his long-term investment strategy and UBA’s solid shareholder returns.
At the same time, Zenith Bank’s founder and Chairman, is set to earn roughly ₦5.18 billion following the lender’s latest dividend declaration (Nairametrics). The payout underscores Zenith Bank’s position as one of the strongest performers in the Nigerian banking sector.

These dividend windfalls not only reinforce the financial clout of Elumelu and Ovia but also reflect the strength of Nigeria’s tier-one banks in rewarding shareholders despite economic pressures.
