Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State on Friday explained why he did not go to court to challenge his suspension and the state of emergency declared in the state.
Fubara said he decided to cooperate with President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly instead of fighting the decision.
President Tinubu had suspended him for six months and declared a state of emergency in Rivers during that time.
After the suspension, some Nigerians advised Fubara to take the matter to court. But he chose peace and reconciliation, waiting out the suspension.
Yesterday, Tinubu ended the emergency rule and reinstated Fubara as governor.
In a state-wide address, Fubara said his decision was based on personal conviction and sacrifice.
He said:
“As your Governor, I agreed to follow the state of emergency declaration and chose to work with Mr. President.
That was why I resisted the pressure to question the legality of the emergency rule, the suspension of democratic institutions, and other actions we experienced during that difficult time.”
