Singer, songwriter and actress Tiwatope Omolara Savage popularly known as Tiwa Savage has stated that she is more musically talented than the ‘Big 3’ ( Davido, Wizkid and Burna Boy) in the Nigerian Music Industry.

Davido, Wizkid and Burna Boy are regarded as the current big top three Nigerian artists and are collectively referred to as the ‘Big 3’. There are also conversations about adding a fourth name to the list, with many suggesting artists like Tiwa Savage, Rema, Asake and others being considered.

Commenting in the discourse in the Nigerian music industry in a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM, Lagos, the singer shared her thoughts on being on the elite list. She boasted that she was more musically talented than Davido, Wizkid and Burna Boy who are placed on the list.

The host had asked, “Do you feel like you’ve to be part of the ‘Big 3’ or even ‘Big 4’ conversation? How do you feel about that?

Savage replied saying,

“Don’t get me started. If we are to go talent for talent, mic for mic, I am the big 1. If you take off the numbers, and whatever you want to judge the big whatever with, you can’t see me on the mic. But again, it [the ranking] is not based on that”.

Savage’s contributions to the Nigerian music industry has earned her several achievements. In November 2018, She won Best African Act at the 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards, becoming the first woman to win the category.

She announced her record deal with Universal Music Group and exit from Mavin Records in May 2019. Savage’s third studio album Celia, which was released in August 2020, yielded the singles ‘Temptation’, ‘Dangerous Love’, ‘Koroba’, and ‘Temptation’

Tiwa Savage’s second extended play Water & Garri, which blends Afrobeat with soulful R&B, was released on 20 August 2021. Savage announced the Water & Garri North American Tour in support of the EP in March 2022. The singer received an honorary degree from the University of Kent during a graduation ceremony at Canterbury Cathedral in July 2022.
