APC Sacks Aregbesola Over Anti Party Activities

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the suspension of former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, citing alleged anti-party activities as the reason for this decision.

In a formal resolution sent to the APC National Secretariat and addressed to the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Umar Ganduje, the Osun APC accused Aregbesola of sowing discord and creating factional divisions within the party.

According to the resolution, these actions have threatened the stability and unity of the APC in Osun State, particularly at a time when cohesion is essential to addressing current political challenges.

The resolution alleges that Aregbesola has been involved in fostering a splinter faction within the Osun APC, which has caused significant disruptions and internal conflicts.

The party leadership claims that this factionalism, attributed to Aregbesola’s influence, has led to deep-seated divisions among party members.

This, they argue, has weakened the party’s collective front and hindered its ability to present a united stance on pressing political issues in the state. The Osun APC emphasized that such divisions have detracted from the party’s primary objectives, as internal conflicts consume resources and distract from broader goals, including electoral preparations and policy implementation.

The state party chapter further expressed concerns that Aregbesola’s actions had fostered a climate of mistrust among members, complicating efforts to build an inclusive and cohesive party.

They underscored that Osun APC needs to maintain unity to effectively navigate the ongoing political landscape, as any fractures within the party could compromise its strength and influence.

The chapter also noted that it had undertaken various steps in recent months to address the factional disputes, aiming to reconcile differences and bring discontented members back into the fold.

However, these efforts reportedly did not yield the desired results, prompting the leadership to adopt a more decisive stance through the suspension.

While this suspension marks a significant development within the Osun APC, Aregbesola’s camp has yet to issue an official response.

Analysts believe that any response from Aregbesola, who has been a prominent political figure in Osun and an influential player in APC’s national framework, could have substantial implications for the party’s stability and future direction.

His position on the matter will likely be a subject of close scrutiny, given the potential ripple effects on both the Osun APC and the party’s national dynamics.

Meanwhile, the Osun APC reiterated its commitment to reinforcing party unity, stressing that the decision to suspend Aregbesola was necessary to preserve cohesion during this pivotal period in Osun politics.
